He’s a NASCAR star and he loves his sport, but that doesn’t mean Brian Vickers wasn’t awed by the technology in the Red Bull garage at last summer’s Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal. Vickers spent the weekend with the Formula One team getting an insider’s view of the operation. The cars were pretty cool, but he still loves the No. 83 Red Bull Toyota...
I would love to try one, but I don’t know if I would want to race Formula One because it is a different style of racing. I enjoy the wheel-to-wheel battles between competitors that NASCAR offers on a lap-by-lap basis that Formula One doesn’t. Maybe I would love it – I don’t know because I’ve never done it – but the car would be amazing to drive.
'NASCAR is what really gets my rocks off!'
I’ve driven an IndyCar and it was great and cool and really fast, but I love the fact that you have to man handle these heavy stock cars, they have way too much horsepower, and you have to go wheel-to-wheel, bang, beat, and race inches from your competitors every lap. That’s one thing I really enjoy about our sport.
Now, I am not saying there aren’t a lot of things I would enjoy about Formula One. I respect the cars, the speed and the engineering – they are like fighter jets on wheels – but most of what I like about racing, I find in our sport and not that one.
I mean, F1 is intriguing and I watch the races, and I respect the sport and I appreciate the cars they build, and what they are but what really gets my rocks off, that sport doesn’t really offer.
