James Stewart Jr's had successful surgery and is targeting a return to racing – just in time for this summer’s Supercross Nationals.
Bubba has been out of action since undergoing an operation on a wrist injury sustained earlier this spring.
The American actually carried on racing with the injury at first and even claimed a third-placed finish at Anaheim II in January.
However the 2009 champion insists that it wasn’t the ‘real James Stewart’ that you saw racing in Round Three and, following surgery to repair a broken scaphoid bone in his right wrist, he can't wait to get back on his Yamaha.
'I want to give you guys the real James Stewart' – Bubba
He told DMXS radio: "The hand’s getting better, it’s not ready to go yet but in a few weeks maybe. We’ll have a look."
Stewart felt the pain of the injury intensify at Anaheim II and was ultimately left with no choice but to go under the knife.
He said: “The first jump I hit, I was like, ‘my wrist hurts so bad!’ I was pleased I didn’t crash, I could barely hold on! I wanted to cry – my hand hurt so bad.”
The AMA Supercross season continues apace, meanwhile, with Round 11 taking place in Dallas last weekend.
In the 450 class, Honda Red Bull's Davi Millsaps and Trey Canard both claimed podium finishes.
Millsaps claimed second, while Canard took third, as Ryan Dungey saw off stiff competition to finish first.
Stewart will hope to be back in the saddle sooner rather than later as he bids to challenge the likes of Dungey when the Nationals get underway this summer.
