Carlos Sainz wins Silk Way Rally 2010 Volkswagen Motorsport

In his exclusive Silk Way Rally blog Carlos Sainz enjoys his victory and tells Vladamir Putin exactly how many roubles he'll need to part with to buy Carlos's Volkswagen...

Finally, we are in Sochi and the Silk Way 2010 is mine. But before we entered stage eight yesterday stage seven was on the way and a special guest.

Stage seven was again pretty intense, but fortunately I had no troubles and recorded the second best time of the day. Once again Nasser [Al-Attiyah] was the fastest and showed that you should never count him out. But the real challenge was the visit of Vladimir Putin at the Camp of the Silkway Rally in Maykop.

'I told Putin about €500,000 and it's yours!'

As a great fan of our sport, he came straight after a meeting from Sochi to our place. I showed him my car and I told him how much such a car would cost, as he wanted to know. About 500,000 Euros you have to pay, then it is yours [laughs]. And he also took a closer look at the engine.

My second win at the Silk Way Rally is a good sign for the Dakar 2010 in Argentina and Chile. Hopefully there I will have another chance to taste the champagne as winner.

But before then I have to go to the hospital when I am back at home. Nothing important, just a normal knee surgery on the meniscus – nothing to worry about.

See you in Dakar 2011,
Carlos
