After Glastonbury the whole bands immune systems pack it in. This is how England took over the world. Cooties. My 15-month-old daughter arrives with a tummy bug to throw in the mix too. Thank Ugod we have a week off for convalescence. Moving your family to the other side of the globe requires some next-level logistical stratagems. Take it slow is my advice.
Our next mission is rather arduous; it requires that we spend the next three days in a van, running a tight ship in order to keep our dates with sound checks, performance times, lobby calls, airport check in, boarding calls. Jena is our first stop on this leg; a cool little university town of about 100,000. Two thirds of the population either study or work for the school in some capacity. The venue is the multi-dimensional, multi-leveled castle Kassablanca; set in a graffitied up decommissioned train yard, very vibey. In the tower we eat prunes wrapped in chicken wrapped in bacon, spiced potatoes and cheesecake with cherries. A wild card – Jena turns out to be a highlight of the tour with the crowd living up to the crazy haphazard feel of Kassablanca. Our man DJ Shape holds it down before and after.
