“And though my people may not be many, we are ready to be strong as one.
And though my people, travel light, they are willing to fight the fight” The Raft, Fat Freddy’s Drop
Jam masters Fat Freddy’s Drop announce the New Zealand release of The Raft single on 7” vinyl.
The Raft is the third single to be lifted from double platinum selling album Dr Boondigga & The Big BW and in keeping the faith with one of the albums few reggae tracks Fat Freddy’s Drop has mastered and pressed a limited edition 7” vinyl in Berlin. Side A features The Raft Radio Edit and Side B is The Raft Steppers Dub an instrumental remix by DJ Fitchie.
The Raft will also be released on MP3 from Monday 13th September. The MP3 release features two bonus tracks, the original dubbed out version from Dr Boondigga & The Big BW and an electronic dub remix by Wellington producer Jet Jaguar who currently resides in Melbourne.
Ahead of the New Zealand release The Raft has been getting positive spins on campus and community stations in USA where it was released off the back of the bands recent tour of the West Coast and Hawaii. The high rotate on stations from Anchorage and Phoenix to New York and Honolulu resulted in The Raft hitting the Top Ten ‘most added’ on the AAA network.
‘Fat Freddy's Drop is picking up a lot of buzz’ commented KRTU, Texas. ‘Digging this! said WNTI in NYC Jersey suburbs and ‘127 spins to date already from KCRW in L.A.
The Raft cover art is by Paul Walsh who responded to an invitation by Fat Freddy’s Drop to fans worldwide to submit their take on the single. Walsh, an Auckland based freelance artist was selected from over 100 entries.
Freddy’s frontman Joe Dukie wrote The Raft as an ode to the story of the ‘The Great Migration from Hawaiiki’ a story that has many guises including the1898 painting The Arrival of the Māoris in New Zealand by Louis J Steele and Charles F Goldie.
