The third round of Red Bull Air Race returns this weekend to one of the world’s most colourful cities – Rio de Janeiro in Brazil.

An enthusiastic home support will crowd the beaches of the Guanabara Bay as the aerial assault continues in the skies above the party city.

The third race on the eight-stop tour will be webcast live on Red Bull Web TV. The action gets underway on Sunday at 16.50 (CET).

It’s a special race for the competitors as well as for the fans – the latter's incredible response to the Air Race's only other visit to Rio in 2007 left a real impression on the pilots.

The runner-up in Rio in 2007, Alejandro Maclean, said: “For me it’s one of the best races ever, not just for the flying, but also for the audience."

'The crowd are just awesome and their enthusiasm transmits to everybody' – Maclean

Brazilian Adilson Kindlemann’s crash in practice in Perth last month means he is without a plane so home fans will have to switch their allegiances.

The country's largest company, Petrobras, are flying the flag instead, sponsoring the American pilot Michael Goulian who has painted his plane in the distinctive bright green and yellow colours of the national flag.

Hannes Arch is not the sentimental type and the Austrian, who finished fourth in Rio in 2007, will be looking to sweep Goulian and all others aside and claim another victory to add to the one he got in Perth, Australia last time out.

2009 winner Paul Bonhomme leads the field again from British compatriot Nigel Lamb, with Arch currently in third and Matt Hall of Australia in fourth.
