Franklin who was riding for Team Europe took out the individual points win at the final of the Hardcore Freestyle Motocross competition held in Zurich on 20th May. Team USA won the overall team event.
Hardcore Freestyle Motocross delivered the best riders from the U.S. and Europe in a competition that had never been seen before. Modelled after the celebrated U.S. tour, the Hardcore Freestyle Motocross tour pitted five elite U.S. competitors against five elite European competitors in a gravity-defying duel for supremacy.
Freestyle motocross is considered the king of action sports. The fearless riders of Hardcore Freestyle Motocross launch themselves and their motorcycles airborne some 15 meters into the air, defying gravity to perform "sick tricks" and to win "big-air" style points. And while the aerial tricks are amazing enough, the fact they must (and usually do!) land safely on two wheels, is even more incredible.
Franklin rode the final of three events with an injured knee which made the win even more outstanding.
“I rested for the week after the Helsinki event and ended up riding great under the circumstances. I couldn’t pull a few of my tricks because my knee wouldn’t bend all the way however I started doing flip nacnacs and flip no footers for the first time to dirt,” says Franklin. “I was unlucky to not win one of the three events. Unfortunately, the judges couldn’t see my one handed take off trick but I still got two 2nds and a 4th to win the series overall title.”
Franklin has moved on to Tokyo where he is taking part in a Multiplex; a motor sports festival demonstration being held this weekend. Franklin is the only foreigner taking place and will no doubt wow the crowds with his line up of tricks.
