Dead Weather Third Man Records

One of Jack White’s other bands – alongside The White Stripes and The Raconteurs – The Dead Weather release their second album this week. Sea Of Cowards sees Jack and chums Alison Mosshart, Jack Lawrence and Dean Freitas step it up a notch and almost get funky.

The National, who’ve been knocking around for a few albums, look set to clean up this year with their fourth album High Violet. Already being hailed as the Brooklyn band’s best, it’s being streamed at their site and is genuinely a step up.

Guns ‘N Roses’ – let’s face it – LEGEND – Slash releases his debut solo album, entitled Slash, which features all manner of legends helping out such as Ozzy Osbourne, Iggy Pop, Chris Cornell, Dave Grohl and Ian Astbury.

Taylor Hawkins takes time off from Foo Fighters to make his solo effort Taylor Hawkins & The Coattail Riders, expect to see more of him on the festival circuit this summer... Keane release an ‘eight-track EP’ entitled Night Train this week. It sees the arguably the three poshest men in music collaborating with K’naan and Tigarah on a set of tunes written during their last tour.

The unstoppable Lady Gaga releases a round-up of some her best remixes in a package thoughtfully entitled The Remix. It features re-workings of all her hits so far. East Londoners Foals follow up their debut Antidotes with Total Life Forever... Also, the boys of Holy Fuck return with a follow up to 2008s LP with Latin. It was announced to the world on notorious Chatroulette website, and features more sonic exploration than you can shake a stick at.

Following on from their four wonderful collections of last Summer, Disco Discharge winningly returns with another set of hand chosen disco magicalness from mid seventies to early eighties. The four sets cover Classic Disco, Disco Ladies, Euro Disco and Gay Disco & HI NRG. Amazing. Literally a weekend full of incredible.

This week's best reissues come in the form of This is Big Audio Dynamite, which was the band that Mick Jones invented with film-maker and DJ Don Letts in 1985, after being ousted from The Clash. It was way ahead of its time, throwing samples about and mixing film bits, hip hop and dub into a sumptuous mix. The other amazing reissue comes from Judas Priest, celebrating the 30th anniversary of their seminal British Steel album.
