Minuit have announced three New Zealand shows; Wellington 18 May and Auckland 8 June. But the one that stands out is their return to hometown Nelson to raise funds for Nelsonian Tony Bayard.
Tony is the only person in New Zealand with two very rare medical conditions - you may have seen him on Campbell Live recently. Tony's younger brother, Aaron, died from complications of the same conditions last year. The money raised from the show will go towards getting Tony to Boston, where he and his family hope to solve the medical puzzle that he faces.
“Nelson is a place that gets behind it's community,” says band member Paul Dodge. “Tony's mates have been doing car washes and cake sales. We decided to put on a show and hand over the proceeds to Tony as well.”
It was a line from Ruth's book of poems that prompted Dodge to suggest the show: 'i meant to hand you a bowl of love, but instead it was a colander...sorry'.
“That line cracked me up, cos it's true, right? Best intentions. I try to take that to heart now.”
Minuit will be roadtesting new material for an upcoming album at all three shows.
