The Race of Champions is a yearly feast of motor sports' finest and redbull.com are all ready to tickle those tastebuds with an hors d'oeuvre of lucky numbers...

1988...
Now in its 23rd year, the 2010 Race of Champions will be held at the Düsseldorf Arena in Germany on November 27-28. The first ever Race of Champions was held in 1988 at the Autodrome de Linas-Montlhéry near Paris, France, in memory of Henri Toivonen, who died while leading the 1986 Tour de Corse, and also to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the world championship for rally drivers.

Alain Prost is the second most prolific winner in the history of Formula One, having taken 51 victories and 106 podiums at motor racing’s top table. Prost took four world championships during one of Formula One’s golden eras of the late 80s and early 90s, starring alongside the likes of Nigel Mansell and Nelson Piquet. He is remembered also for his enthralling battles with the late, great Ayrton Senna.

50,000...
No special privileges will be afforded Prost, even on his Race of Champions debut! Racing identical machinery, the drivers will be pitted against one another in an all-out battle to see who will be crowned the Champion of Champions. The race will take place on a specially constructed tarmac track with two parallel lanes winding their way round the 50,000-capacity Düsseldorf Arena.

Michael Schumacher's return to Formula One this season might not have gone quite as well as he would have liked but the decorated former champion is one of the sport's greatest ever drivers. Schu has won no fewer than seven world titles, dominating the sport in the early noughties, with five successive championship wins. A true champion of champions, it won't surprise anyone to learn that he has some serious form in the Race of Champions! Along with Red Bull Racing's Sebastian Vettel he has won each of the last three Nations' Cup contests.

3...
Supposedly the magic number! Swedish DTM driver Mattias Ekström has been Champion of Champions in three of the last four races and is now only one victory away from equalling Frenchman Didier Auriol's record. Auriol's compatriot, the seven-time WRC champion, Sébastien Loeb, also has three wins to his name with his last success coming at London's Wembley Stadium in 2008.

The number of times a ROC winner has climbed onto the roof of his Ferrari! Making a name for himself in more ways than one, Heikki Kovalainen celebrated an exciting semi-final win over Michael Schumacher in 2004 in particularly jubilant fashion. "The Race of Champions has a special place in my heart because beating Michael and Sébastien [Loeb] in 2004 really got me noticed in the world of motor sport," said Kovalainen. The latest high-profile name to sign up for this year's event, the Lotus Formula One driver will hope to re-enact one of his finest hours at this year's Race of Champions.
