Rakaa Iriscience (1/3 of Dilated Peoples) and Tassho Pearce are making their way to New Zealand fresh from their Australian Tour to bring the elements of Hip-Hop together for one night at Auckland’s Bacco Room.
Hitting New Zealand shores ready to promote his debut solo release Crown of Thorns, Rakaa Iriscience had to
make the stop in New Zealand on his way back to his home in Los Angeles. The warm welcome Dilated
Peoples received last time they played in Auckland is what cemented this trip. A kiwi audience appreciative of
underground Hip-Hop music.
Ask him if this solo release means the end of Dilated and the response is swift and resolute. "Definitely not,"
says the rapper. "We were always solo artists that came together and The Platform was our common
denominator.
A seasoned performer with his heart firmly planted in the intricacies of lyrical intelligence accompanied with
head nodding beats, first timers to Rakaa Iriscience’s live show will not be disappointed.
Tassho Pearce, a battle emcee based in Hawai’i also known as a resilient hustler has made many notable
accomplishments over his career. An independent artist, Tassho has collaborated with people such as KiD
CuDi as well as Hip-Hop mogul, Russell Simmons Run Athletics label creating a limited edition of sneaker and
tees based on Tassho’s own label Flip the Bird which saw artists such as Eminem, Method Man and Kanye
West sporting his fashion line. He is a force to be reckoned with, both on and off stage.
This monumental event will be supported by local Hip-Hop legends Che-Fu (MNZM) and King Kapisi
performing under their joint force effort, Hedlok.
“Both Che and I just thought about it one day, we travel around the world performing with our bands, why don’t
we just form a deejay sound system so we can drop club sets consistently without the major organization
required behind a band gig. We came up with Hedlok,” states King Kapisi.
Hedlok perform hits from both of their solo repertoires while alternating the front of stage for the decks in which
both artists are seasoned scratch deejays as well as freestyle rhymers.
Fresh on the scene newcomers Super Villains will be dropping their self-proclaimed style of ”90’s upbeat
boom-bap, bibbidy rap and swayze swagged out bangers.” The band members fit with super villainous names
will be dropping their usual collective madness on the night.
Bethells Beach resident Scalper (ex Fun-Da-Mental Hip-Hop group from the UK) will bring his dark and
conscious rhyme style to the foreground. This Pakistani brother and London Native spits truth motivated by his
love of this planet and human kind.
New Zealand’s very first DMC DJ Champion, DJ Ned Roy and DJ Ryuzo will be dropping sets in between the
acts as well as a team battle display. Artist, Montsta will be creating a live graff piece for the night and there
is an open floor for b-boys and b-girls.
With all four elements of Hip-Hop represented in one night at the Bacco Room on Saturday 5th November, an
event like this does not happen everyday.
King Kapisi will be shooting his next music video collaboration with Rakaa Iriscience in Auckland November 2nd
called Crush.
