On a Wednesday evening Aucklands top BMX'ers gathered on the top of a carpark building on the North Shore for the Redbull Legends.
The idea behind this competition was to build a grindbox desgined for bikes that would imitate a "street" ledge. A comp without the normal hassles associated with street riding, giving the riders the time to pull off as many tricks as possible. The format was a one hour jam, allowing the riders to have as many goes whenever they felt like it.The session got underway and it was clear from the start the level of riding and technical skill was going to be high. After the hour drew to a close the top three were chosen by the judges. In third place was Ollie with a variety of grind and manual combos even with a cast on his wrist. Second place went to Bevan, standout trick being his Barspin on to Tuck No Hander off the ledge. That leaves us with the winner, Louis Bolter. Louis showed he is the Redbull Legend, riding completely on another level. His bag of tricks included Nose Manual of the whole ledge, Feeble Grind-Manual-Tailwhip, Hangover Toothpicks and Truckdrivers ( a 360 spin with a barspin on the way round) off the ledge.
In a great display of sportsmanship Louis (who is sponsored by Wethepeople) handed over his first place prize a Subrosa Alameda frame to second place Bevan making what had already been an awesome night that little bit sweeter.
A great night out for BMX in Auckland, Red Bull Legends does it again.
