As the Red Bull Music Armada sets sail for Brazil, event host Renata Simoes gives us a quick taste of what each of the five stop-off points has to offer…
Stop One: Florianopolis
Renata Simoes says: “Florianopolis has two nicknames: Floripa and Magic Island. It has a strong summer vibe, lots of European cultural influence - especially from the Azoreans in Floripa. The food is good, simple and heavily influenced by the local fisherman. This is where Brazilians go on holiday in the summer - it is the land of surf. The sunset parties turn in to ‘after hours’ parties, and those only end when the morning comes.”
The party style: Florianopolis is about partying morning, noon and night, so it’s the norm to fit in a beach party at Praia Mole or Praia Brava before heading to Pacah Floripa, El Divino Club or Life Club, three of the most popular joints for catching the latest dance music. Florianopolis is home to a whopping five samba schools, so party-starting live bands are everywhere - almost as omnipresent as the oysters, which are cheap and pretty much fresh from the fishermen’s nets.
