Wellington's Tussock Bar at Massey University was the lucky recipient of a 'pimp my student venue' experience on Friday 17th October in the name of the first Red Bull Studio Live event. A mighty Red Bull sound-system and state-of-the-art DJ booth were wheeled into the venue followed by an equally impressive line up to get the students dancing.
It was time to take the concept of the bNET weekly Red Bull Studio Live sessions (www.redbullstudio.co.nz) off the airwaves and on to the dance-floor. These young things needed a taste of the real deal delivered fresh to their door. Getting the party started was the work of Isaac Aesili and Tyra Hammond from Auckland heavyweights Opensouls. Aesili's selection of funk stylings and trumpet wizardry were the perfect base for Hammond to lay down her smooth vocals as only she knows how.
Once the crowd warmed up, it was time for Electric Wire Hustle to step up to the mics and lay down their magic. With Mara TK's soulful vocals, Dave Wright's fast fingertips on keys and Myele Manzanza's high-energy drum solos, the guys truly did justice to their pimped out surrounds.
The evening set a phenomenal benchmark for the first headlining set of the Red Bull Studio Live events. Keep an ear out for them on a station near you because you do not want to miss out.
