A Red Bull Thre3Style DJ needs precise technical skills, unbelievable track selection and most importantly, the ability to get the crowd on the dance floor rocking!
The battle is on: who will represent NZ at the world Thre3Style finals?
Red Bull Thre3Style is not your standard DJ contest; it’s a creative format that gives highly skilled DJs a platform to prove their supremacy in technical ability and the art of rocking a party. On April 28th DJs from around NZ will compete for the crowd and the judges’ favour, with a 15 minute set containing at least three different music genres. DJs are judged on four criteria; skills, creativity, track selection and most importantly, crowd response.
New Zealand’s Thre3Style format this year is bigger and better than ever, 2012 will see the regional heats rolled into one "all-in" competition, where 8 DJs from around the country will gather in Wellington in the hope to be crowned the national Red Bull Thre3Style Champion.
“Red Bull Three3Style is an awesome experience to be a part of. The event itself is a great party, heaps of fun! Winning the title in 2010 and travelling to Paris to represent NZ was a major highlight in my DJ career and has created many opportunities” said Scratch 22, 2010 NZ Thre3Style Champion.
For the first time in Thre3Style history, two wild card places were left open for DJs to submit a mix to showcase their party rocking abilities, in the hope of being chosen to compete for the 2012 Red Bull Thre3Style New Zealand Champion title. Steezie Wonder (Flex) and Scizzorhands showcased brilliant party rocking abilities and snatched the two wild card positions for themselves. They will compete against invited DJs, DJ Manchoo (NZ DMC Champion), DJ Substance (Home Brew), Kev Fresh, El Pasko, Seth Hamilton and Downtown Brown.
Special guest, Star Slinger (UK), will perform alongside 2011 Thre3Style NZ Champion, DJ Spell, at this year’s event. Having performed with numerous well renowned music artists, Manchester’s DJ Star Slinger grew into a worldwide phenomenon in 2011 due to his unique hip-hop style with elements of folding rap, RnB, indie rock and dream pop, pushing stylistic limitations and tearing up nightclubs, Star Slinger’s musical style is the epitome of what Thre3Style is all about.
NZ music legend PDigsss (Shapeshifter) will be holding the floor as your resident peacekeeper. Key members from within the music scene and industry will judge the competition.
Red Bull Thre3Style will be held at Macs Brew (Upstairs) in Wellington on Saturday April 28th from 8pm.
