Sally Fitzgibbons secured her second consecutive elite tour victory, winning the ASP Subaru Pro in Taranaki, New Zealand, on Saturday, to climb to the top of the female rankings.

Fresh off her maiden victory at Bells Beach last week, Australian Fitzgibbons defeated defending event champion and ratings leader Carissa Moore, 18, (HAW).

Fitzgibbons' victory moved her up to the ASP World Number One position, just 500 points ahead of Moore, who is now at number two.

“This means the world to me, I’m so stoked to get a win here in New Zealand,” Fitzgibbons said. “Last year I got runner-up so to take the win today is extra special.

“The waves today were pretty challenging. Entering the water I saw a little peak down the beach, it was a risky move but it paid off this time. I just went out there and thought I’m in the final and I just wanted to go for it.“

The Subaru Pro is event number three of seven on the ASP Women's World Title Tour, with the next event the Commonwealth Bank Beachley Classic at the Dee Why in Australia’s New South Wales between May 3-8.
