Red Bull-backed surfer Sally Fitzgibbons had a very good day in the Hunter Ports Women's Classic after posting the highest heat and cruising through to the Round of 12…
Australian Sally Fitzgibbons – runner-up in the 2011 ASP Women's World Title race – thrilled her fellow countrymen and women in Newcastle, New South Wales, after scoring 18.03 (out of a possible 20) in a Round of 24 victory that saw her easily advance to the Round of 12.
“I’m pretty stoked with that heat,” said Sally. “There was a lot of waves in that heat and it was lots of fun.
“In my first heat, I was trying different equipment and trying some things out and that work paid off. With events like this it’s good to really get to know your boards and try different heat strategies heading into ASP Women’s World Championship Tour events. We’ve got Bells coming up which I’m excited about and this is a stepping stone towards that.”
Fellow Red Bull superstar Carissa Moore, the current number one seed, will now be looking to follow Sally into the final 12 after cruising into the final 24 yesterday.
