The Rip Curl Pro Search event, the only ASP World Title competition to have a roving license, has confirmed Ocean Beach, San Francisco as the official destination for 2011. This is the seventh year in succession that the Search has been an ASP World Title event, and as always it will see the world's best surfers battle it out against each other and the diverse conditions served up by the San Fran swell. After Mick Fanning claimed the inaugural Rip Curl Pro Search title at Reunion Island in 2005, the event has gone on to make history in Mexico, Chile, Indonesia, Portugal, and most recently Puerto Rico. The unique floating license, which allows Rip Curl to change the locations each year, brings out the best in surfers by allowing them to see places they've never been and forcing them to adapt to conditions they've never surfed before, really putting them beyond their comfort zone.
The six different locations over the last six years have served up a total variety of different conditions and this year will be no different. San Francisco brings a whole new dimension to the Search, the world's best surfers against the elements; cold water, sizable surf, beachbreak, not to mention that time of year gives you a good chance for offshore winds. All this plus the unique energy that the city brings will make this event a very distinct part of the Rip Curl Pro Search legacy.
The event will take place between stairwell 20 at VFW's, north to Kelly's Cove between the 1st and 12th of November 2011.
