- About this Videos
- After a self-admitted “failed” attempt at reloacting to Melbourne and a large amount soul searching with his last album, Roy Irwin's first release since signing to MUZAI Records harks on the theme of growing pains... and the fear of growing up. 3, 2, 1, 2000 is not only a representation of Roy's take on playing “in a band” (having recorded all the instrumentation bar one himself in his house), but also three particular subjects; teenage misadventure, his love life – akin to watching a bad comedy – and last, but by no means least, the hardness of letting go of a certain time, place, person and the memories that came along with it. Written and recorded between January and April of this year, unashamedly through GarageBand and with “basic sh*t; a couple of guitars, a bucket and some wooden spoons”, Irwin's second album draws upon infuences such as Jay Retard and Darcy Clay, both of which the musician listened to constantly while recording. Of course, there's the usual suspects of Evan Dando, Smudge and Dinosaur Jr in terms of Roy's overall influence. With every song recorded the same day it was penned, 3, 2, 1, 2000 is a snapshot of just how prolific Roy Irwin has been, and now with a label backing how magnanimous he is set to become.
