- Forty-eight hours after Christian Maurer touched down in Monaco and defended his Red Bull X-Alps title, the world’s toughest adventure race officially came to an end. Only two more athletes, Romanian Toma Coconea and Austrian Paul Guschlbauer, had a realistic chance to also reach Monaco within the allotted 48 hours, but after an exciting neck-and-neck finish only one could accomplish the mission.
